The term "wireless router" is a bit of a misnomer. Wireless routers are actually three common pieces of networking hardware rolled into a single consumer product. It's a router, a network switch, and a wireless access point... in one!

And the end result is disappointment.

Even high-end consumer wireless routers perform only marginally better than their budget cohorts in most homes we see (which is to say "pretty poorly"). It's still an all-in-one box located in a less-than-ideal spot doing too many jobs, and mastering none of them. Wireless signals don't penetrate through walls very well. They're also prone to interference from all sorts of common household objects, and with wireless being somewhat ubiquitous, any residential neighbourhood is going to be inundated with wireless networks competing with each other. And that ISP-issued 'wireless internet gateway' definitely isn't going to cut it either.

Not a closet by the furnace, not snuggled up to a utility panel, and not behind the TV where the cat sleeps on it for warmth.

We use high-performance, enterprise-grade equipment with aesthetics that won't look out of place or call attention to themselves. For better outdoor coverage, we offer durable and weather-resistant access points that will endure temperatures as low as -40°C and as high as +70°C.
